Local Loop Unbundling (LLU) has been hailed a revolution in cheaper, faster broadband connections, yet it has always fallen short when it comes to customer service levels. However, times are changing as BroadbandChoices.co.uk reports that LLU customers are now enjoying higher levels of customer satisfaction, as well as receiving value for money.
New research from Point Topic asked respondents to identify the factors, that influenced them when choosing their current ISP. Cheap monthly rental came out top, with 34 per cent reporting this as an aspect that influenced their decision.
Results also concluded that, whereas in 2006, LLU households appeared less satisfied with all aspects of their service, 2008 shows a marked increase, with LLU households currently enjoying an advantage across all categories, compared to non LLU households. The advantages of LLU over cable services have mostly been in terms of after-sale support and value for money.
Michael Phillips, product director at BroadbandChoices.co.uk, said: "When LLU first rolled out on a large scale, LLU customers were less satisfied on almost every measure compared to the customers of traditional broadband services. Historically, LLU providers have always fallen short when it comes to customer satisfaction, but times are clearly changing as the broadband market becomes more competitive and ISPs strive to retain their existing customers."

'If you are worried about laying off engineers, why not re-deploy them in sales while the installations side picks up? You often find that the best dealers are former engineers who have a broad knowledge of the industry, who customers trust to give them sound advice and a solution that works for them.'
